The Black Friar has risen from the ashes, sympathetically restored to be bigger and better than ever before. With capacity for over 220 revellers, we’re on a pilgrimage to bring together friends, loved ones and strangers alike to break bread and share a drink.

Built in 1886, The Black Friar was resurrected after lying derelict for over 15 years. An extensive refurbishment in 2021 aimed to bring a harmony between the old and new. We like to think it’s somewhere everyone feels at home. 

Our unique, independently owned pub has something for all tastes and fancies. Tuck into honest grub in the Pub, or dine á la carte in the grand Glass Room. If the sun is shining (miracles do happen) our award-winning Garden and outdoor Tavern is the perfect place to top up your tan with a cocktail.
